EXIT 93 CLOSURE STOPPED ~ THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!
Late last year, Councillor Daphne McDonald mentioned that the Exit 93 near The Pines shopping centre was still noted on the Plan from 2008 as being ‘southbound exit to be closed’. Inquiries of the State MP and the Govt. response indicated that whilst unfunded, the Exit would be closed if funds were available.
An E-Petiton was started and thanks to wide coverage and sharing, a total of 2,499 people signed the E-Petition. As a result, the Minister responded to me as the principal Petitioner stating that “Further planning is now underway to refine details for upgrading this section of the M1, although such upgrades are currently not funded. I can advise Petitioners that I have asked that the planning (department) investigate options to leave Exit 93 open”.
This is great news for all those who expressed dismay at the prospect of the potential closure.
It goes to show that vigilance by the local councillor, coupled with the contacts made via Facebook and Twitter, helped create a large enough number of people to force a re-consideration of this ill-conceived proposed closure.
A big “THANK YOU” to all those who supported the E-Petition.
